Electric Water
Electric Water is a curious experiment in direct democracy, being built by a few members of the Australian Pirate Party, with the aim that one day we would be able to poll our members on issues that come up in parliament. Currently, we abstain from having any opinion on topics outside of our policies to avoid alienating potential voters, which is somewhat wasteful.
The project aims to provide tools for the server, the voting member, and the party officials, to create and run polls which are transparent, easily verifiable, and highly resistant to corruption. All of the software will be built on top of open source technologies like Ruby, Titanium (HTML5 + javascript), and perhaps server side Javascript if performance requires it.
Please do keep in mind that this is an experiment and nothing more. Online voting is not a policy of the Australian Pirate Party, but simply something we're interested in playing with. If you'd like to learn more about the particular methods we're planning to use, check out our wiki on github, where we'll be writing more information with time. :)
