for the sake of consistency, make "-l" dump to syslog like before. make a 
new "-L" option for writing to a logfile.

add a test to verify that epoll is working on linux (with ulimit -n > 
1024), so we can be sure we handle more than 1024 connections.

fix unit tests to work with eventmachine. part of this meant forking a new 
process for each test. sorry. it seemed safer than threads.
