I thought ResetPassword.exists?(:user_id => self.id) would cut it, too. Admittedly, it takes a database lookup but since ResetPasswords are destroyed when the user resets his password, it worked.

Which brings me to the question: do you make sure the performing_reset flag is reset to false when the user resets his password?
