Avenue

This app serves a very specific purpose: it is for students (or professors) at the Queensland University of Technology to conveniently activate their QUT Access internet without having to go through the portal, or keep open the Keep-Alive window. In fact, users of Avenue won't even need to have a browser open to access the internet!

The application will be an OS X application but will be built with RubyCocoa. I will be trying to keep the core connection classes separate from the Cocoa code so the scripts might be useful to anyone else that has ruby. Perhaps a Linux port will hence be a possibility.

Planned Features

  • Automatic connection when QUT wireless network is detected
  • Automatic connection when a network interface gets a 131.181.. IP address
  • Display connection status and time
  • Automatic re-connect on forceful disconnection.
  • Menu shortcuts to common QUT locations (Webmail, QUT Virtual, Blackboard, etc)
    • Possibly with auto-login but not a priority
