5 comments Created 2 months ago by calvertcruzBugxEvent-->Racers: Ability to filter by multiple categoriesEventsxWhat if someone fell under multiple categories (Women and Expert; Men and Beginner)? Based on this, women beginners would have to race men beginners, etc. The user couldn't race two women beginners if the beginner category is selected from the sort menu. There is no option to categorize competitors in multiple categories.

I've got it on categories, events, and racers. However, there's a bit of a complication adding a cancel to races. I'll have to come up with a way to persist the record in an incremental way, right now it saves as you add racers.

Deleting is not ideal if people have already started entering racers or started racing.

0 comments Created 2 months ago by jonfenEventsxEvent Name: only shows on event screenRequestxIt should also show up on the get ready, race, and stats screens.
The text in the global config can be used as the default text. Whereas everytime someone clicks "new event" it will use that text and timestamp. ex: New Event Name: "Open Sprints: Sept 25th"

Add "XX racers are assigned to this category" in the category. This will help people think twice about deleting.

1 comment Created 2 months ago by jonfenBugxConfiguration-->Appearance Scrollbar behaviorConfigurationxThe input boxes are not contained to the scroll box area. The text disappears and reappears, but the input boxes don't. Also the scroll bar is not the full height of the grey box so there is space that could be used to show elements that isn't. I am wondering if that is intentional for the save button, but that is a lot of room for just a save button.

1 comment Created 2 months ago by calvertcruzConfigurationxConfiguration-->Hardware-->Race Distance: why here?RequestxWhy is 'Race Distance' in this screen? Seems like it should be somewhere else.
Comments
I think it probably should go on the "Events" screen, and you should be able to set a different distance per "Round".
The reason you see it here is that the race distance is a variable that is sent to the Arduino, so the decision to put it there was based more on making it easy for the programmer than the user.

2 comments Created 2 months ago by calvertcruzConfigurationxConfiguration-->Bikes-->Pick Color: rgb values not intuitiveRequestxChoosing a color for any of the bikes isn't an option at all. For example, choosing yellow on the color wheel gives the description rgb (255, 255, 255) in the 'choose color' inputbox. But anywhere else in the software the color does not appear. It is simply white.
Comments
While this is a powerful option, it clearly isn't intuitive. I am not sure what ability we have to change that screen, but two things we can try are:
1) Change the title bar from "pick..." to "Click a color on the triangle or wheel and then click OK" (or something less verbose.)
2) After someone has successfully used the "pick color" button, it is more important that they see a sample [square] of the color more so than the rgb values.

3 comments Created 2 months ago by calvertcruzEventsxEvent-->Racers-->Add a new racer: Default CategoriesRequestxWhy does the user have to enter a category for every racer, even though the options appear below the 'save' and 'cancel' buttons. To the user, it appears that the category chosen for the racer is being saved. The user shouldn't have to re-select categories every time for each racer. The user should be able to highlight previous selections of chosen categories.

Not totally following you on this one cal, you want to be able to have default categories for all racers? So that, for example, every racer would be preselected as being part of the "Men" category?
Cal's interpretation of the "Filter by Category" goes beyond filtering on the "Event" screen. He feels that if you have selected categories to filter by and then you click "add a new racer" it should automatically select those racer categories for you.
Thus speeding up the input process.

That's an interesting point. Let me think that one over, I don't want to get into an "action at a distance" sort of trap where some unseeable button on another screen has effects on a different screen, but I see your point now: "Navigate to the Women. Enter more Women." That's pretty intuitive, I just have to think how to change this action from a "filter" to a "navigation".

2 comments Created 2 months ago by calvertcruzBugxEvent-->Race-->Edit Race: Custom bike colors not showingRacexIf you select a custom bike color (besides red or blue) from the color wheel, it shows up as white in the "Edit Race" and "Race" screens.
Comments
This is not 100% consistent, but sometimes the "edit race" screen is re-setting custom bike colors to rgb(255,255,255).

When clicking the add button for the first racer, other racers disappeared from the unmatched box. After clicking the add button for the second racer, all unmatched racers disappeared from the unmatched box. Strangely, when clicking the 'x' button on the previously selected racer returns the previously deleted racers to the unmatched box. Also, if you 'save and add another race' the racers re-appear.

After 5 or so races and filtering by category for women, I clicked new round and chose 2 to advance. This was fine. But when I chose to filter by category once for men and chose to advance two, all of the racers disappeared.

Cal, the categories should probably be based on what you may want to race by, if you want to do an elimination round for all of the "Women beginners" then it might make sense to put them in a category named "Women's Beginners" instead of two categories named "Women" and "Beginners". I know this isn't the answer you are looking for, but it's going to be the solution for a little while until we all wrap our heads around the new categories and how we'll use it for our events.
Evan, the problem with that is then you can't do Women's overall best time.
This might be a situation where we can list out the categories to the right with checkboxes (just like on the add racer categories form) which would give the admin the ability to select more than one at once.
While I can't imagine too many more than 5 (Men, Women, Beginner, Sport, Expert) we can always put the checkbox list in a container with a scroll bar.
This would also allow people to see what they are currently filtering, as it stands now, they have to remember what they are filtering by because the screen has no visual queues.
Jon, you could still do a women's best overall time if you had two categories "Women's Junior" and "Women's". and placed all women's juniors in the women's category also. And if you wanted to know who the overall fastest junior was too, you would need a category named "Junior" as well. The key is to create a category representing every category someone could be at the top of, or eliminated from. I know that puts the impetus on the race organizer, but again, I'd like to let the categories feature settle a bit before we re-evaluate the usages of this feature request.
Can we try my suggestion? You already have it implemented in the add racer screen?
I'd really rather not, the only use case that I can understand so far, figuring out who is on top in an arbitrary combination of categories, is a little too complex to bite off. If the goal is to gather standings for the "Women's Junior" category then wouldn't you expect to see stats pages that are a combination of the women's and junior categories? We've just gone up an order of magnitude of complexity at that point. That sort of blows this ticket up to a level beyond your "just do my implementation" would suggest.
