Because github says so. I wonder how many commit messages on github say something similar?
PS - I also wanted to try out markdown and see what it's like. I'm learning the differences between Textile and Markdown and trying to decide which side of the proverbial "fence" I'm on.
Two asterisks for bold just seems like soooo much work. I mean, who uses italics anyway?
