Is it possible for you to upload the result and diff images. Also which OS, how did you install matplotlib and if possible which version of dependencies such as freetype. It might just be slightly different renderings of text due to a different version of freetype. |

Tests were run using account of separate user ("portage") and with ${HOME} set to initially empty directory. |
Does Matplotlib require that some particular fonts be installed? If yes, which ones exactly? By the way, is the format of date hardcoded in Matplotlib or somewhere else? It looks like "%b %d %Y" (month_as_abbreviated_string day year), but nobody in Poland uses such date format. The only used orders of date components are "day month year" ("04.09.2013" or "4 września 2013") or "year month day" ("2013-09-04"). |
I didn't mean to have this issue automatically closed, as it's only partially fixed. matplotlib requires that the fonts that it ships with are installed. All of the tests only require those fonts. It's basically the Bitstream Vera Sans family, Bakoma and STIX fonts. You can look in |
In Matplotlib 1.3.1, there are 4 failures with Python 2 and 3 failures with Python 3.

5 tests fail in matplotlib-1.3.0. These failures occur with all Python versions checked by me (2.6, 2.7, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3).
