With Qt 4.8.5 and PyQt4 4.10.3 on OSX Mountain Lion, python.org 64-bit python, clicking the navigation toolbar file save button in the figure window causes only a barely perceptible flash. The button works with macosx, tkagg, and wxagg backends (though the latter is broken in other ways).

Is this distinct from #1126 ?

Good question. I'm using IPython 2.0.0-dev, so if it was fixed upstream in ipython a year ago, it must have gotten broken again. It does look the same. I just verified that from a plain python prompt, the file save works.

OK, the last comment from @epatters in ipython/ipython#2294 verifies that the ipython change a year ago apparently fixes the problem on Linux, but not on OSX.

@efiring I am closing this as 'upstream fix required' as I think the true issue is outside of our control. Re-open if you disagree.
