    <message>allow us to backup a directory; we have the database being backed up, but what about local files that are outside version control, like user's mugshots.

NOTE: right now, 'tar' is following symlinks.  I'll probably need to change this as it is grabbing too much, but testing it for now.

    <message>allow us to tell it NOT to back up to ebs, even if we have it enabled.  It allows one to keep multiple different types of backups, though it is still consolidated around s3.</message>

    <message>ah, the upgrade_and_install_all for setup sounded like a good idea, but if setup is called multiple times it can automatically install newer versions of the gems than your application demands, and not all gems work well when a newer version is installed but you are trying to use an older one.  Same goes for packages...we don't want to auto-upgrade.  If a user wants to call the upgrade cap task they can, it just shouldn't be automatic</message>

    <message>if nginx is already installed as the web proxy, skip the installation part.  This helps in case the setup task is run multiple times.</message>
