* shoes/ruby.c: finally tracked down the trouble with gradients and osx.  
applying a scaling transformation to a gradient kills things upon fill.  
also, CAIRO_EXTEND_REPEAT causes trouble.  i'm turning these off for now 
(osx only) until i can find a resolution.
