Timothy Goeke-Dee

Cloud Engineer | AWS Specialist | Infrastructure Automation | Log Analysis

Welcome in to my personal GitHub repository! Enjoy your stay.

👨‍💻 About Me

You are viewing Timothy Goeke-Dee's personal GitHub account. I am a full-time Cloud Engineer with three years of experience specializing in AWS. As a Cloud Engineer, I deploy, maintain, secure, and architect server infrastructure hosted on AWS.

My team's primary focus involves managing RHEL and Windows EC2 instances that support Enterprise UEM solutions for mobile device management (macOS, iOS, and Android).

🎓 Education

I'm currently pursuing an Online Master of Science in Computer Science at Georgia Tech (third semester).

Completed Courses:

  • CS 6310: Software Architecture and Design
  • CS 6035: Introduction to Information Security

Currently Enrolled:

  • CS 6200: Introduction to Operating Systems

🛠️ Technical Focus

AWS Cloud Operations

My day-to-day work centers around these core AWS services:

  • Compute & Storage: EC2, EBS, Launch Templates, S3
  • Automation: CloudFormation, Systems Manager (SSM), Lambda, EventBridge
  • Monitoring: CloudWatch (Metrics, Alarms, Dashboards)
  • Security: IAM, CloudTrail, automated compliance frameworks(Nessus, STIGs, CIS Benchmarks)
  • Data Protection: AWS Backup, Secrets Manager, Parameter Store
  • Networking: VPC, Load Balancers (NLB/ALB), Certificate Manager
  • Containers: ECR, ECS

💻 Technical Skills

Operating Systems & Platforms:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) specialist
  • Windows Server administration
  • Elastic Stack implementation for log parsing, aggregation, visualization, and alerting

Languages:

  • Professional Experience (Scripting):
    • Python
    • Bash
    • PowerShell
  • Academic Experience (Programming):
    • Java
    • C

Infrastructure & Configuration Management:

  • Ansible (current focus for personal development and Proof-of-Concept to my team)
  • Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation, SSM)

Certifications:

  • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner - Foundational
  • Currently studying for:
    • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)

Infrastructure as Code

I maintain numerous version-controlled infrastructure assets including:

  • CloudFormation Templates (YAML)
  • SSM Command and Automation Documents (YAML and JSON)
  • CloudWatch Dashboard definitions (JSON)
  • Lambda Functions (Python)
  • Configuration management scripts (Bash, PowerShell)

🔍 Ongoing and Successful Projects

  • Developed automated server management workflows (configuration, patching, operations) using AWS SSM Documents and scheduled State Manager associations
  • Automated the deployment, configuration, lifecycle management, and state-based response actions for AWS Resources using CloudFormation and Lambda Functions
  • Driven infrastructure optimizations for cost, availability, performance, and security, leveraging AWS Prescriptive Guidance and expertise gained from the AWS SysOps certification
  • Enhanced backup and recovery workflows using the AWS Backup Service, achieving a drastic reduction in EBS Snapshot storage costs by eliminating a previously overlooked redundancy
  • Continuously improved monitoring solutions using CloudWatch, the Elastic Stack, Lambda Functions, and EventBridge
  • Pushing for the use of Ansible with Jinja2 templating for more advanced automated configuration management

💼 Professional Highlights

  • Design and implement secure, scalable EC2 deployments
  • Develop infrastructure as code solutions for consistent environments
  • Automate routine operations and security compliance
  • Create robust monitoring and alerting systems
  • Implement disaster recovery solutions
