The application is blocked by a CORS error when attempting to fetch artifacts/browse directly from gitlab

CORS is something that is configured on the server. If the GitLab API of your hosted server does not allow external access, you have to change it there.

You should doublecheck, that the CORS errors are not due to another error. It is possible, that the CORS is just a red hering. If you make a screenshot of the developer tools/network tab, I could help you debug.
