Description
Extension authors frequently encounter insults and offensive comments on the extension review page. However, publishers lack the necessary tools to prevent or restrict such immature behavior, which could potentially damage the reputation of businesses.
Here are some recent absurd reviews made by bots or immature individuals that lack logical reasoning.
suggestion: Add basic moderation tools to reviews
We should have a mechanism to conceal these detrimental and automated reviews generated by bots or, at the very least, restrict access to review posts to all users for a limited duration, akin to the moderation tools available on GitHub.
It is perplexing that @microsoftopensource permits such behavior and the inclusion of offensive content and language on their public platforms. Consequently, as a company, we are compelled to manually report each spammy review individually (6 from the last hours),only utilizing the “appeal” link and waiting weeks for a response.
The current tool
The sole tool we possess, the “appeal” link, is an inefficient method. Regrettably, it appears that the majority of reviewers disregard the reports we submit. For instance, the following “review” is deemed legitimate despite containing a single external link to a promoted blog post that exploits the popularity of extensions for monetary gain. How is this permitted by Microsoft?
Response
Thank you for reaching out to the VS Marketplace Support Team. We only act on a review if it's a spam or if it results from an issue on Microsoft's end. In this instance, a customer seems to have provided a subjective opinion.
While we understand this may affect the average rating, but we are unable to intervene. Please note that this policy applies to all reviews you have reported. Feel free to contact us if you have any other concerns.
