When I try to connect to the Pi using the USB to ttyl connection, I keep encountering this error where the bash screen shows nothing and locks up. To try to set up this connection I followed this guide.

All the guides mislead me into connecting the RX and TX wrong. For example, this if for my cable:

Based on the tutorial, you will end up connecting the RX and TX on this the opposite way. I spent many hours trying to make it work until I wondered "What if my cable's RX is TX from the perspective of the Raspberry Pi?" So I just swapped RX/TX and it worked!
