High CPU usage due to a sync XHR request made by Assistant #315

The old version of Assistant used by AG for Mac performs a sync XHR request to get to its settings.
The problem is that the sync requests causes current stable Chrome to consume 100% CPU.

Temp solution: use default settings everytime (already in place).
A better solution (not final as the corelibs integrated version is coming): pre-load settings and do not perform any requests at all.
