Steps to reproduce:

  1. Install Opera developer build 39.0
  2. Open private window (Ctrl+N)
  3. Enable VPN (to the left from address bar)

VPN status will be forever 'connecting...' unless HTTPs filtering is disabled, Opera is removed from filtered apps or Adguard service is stopped.

@Bushido1 here is an instruction:
https://kb.adguard.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/23/0/how-can-i-get-adguard-log-files

You can change logging level in the tray menu, i need it to be set to "Debug".

@ameshkov I have created a log file and it is attached via this post. I enabled logging in Debug (before it was ,,default") today at 13:00 (EEST UTC/GMT +3) and after that I tried to use Adguard with Opera's VPN. Connecting to VPN must be logged in these files.

@Bushido1 weird, we still have it with the same Opera Dev version.

The only way to make it work is to add two more https exclusions:

api.surfeasy.com
opera-proxy.net

Could you please examine your https exceptions list in AG settings?

@evgeniy-ADG it could be that https exclusions list was not updated (could be modified manually before the update). Ask user to reset settings to default.

@Bushido1, hello!
It's very weird because I have not any problem with enabling/disabling opera's built-in VPN, when Adguard is working. I have tried it many times, since you've reported, and all was ok.
Nevertheless, could you please check if all opera's vpn-domains are included to https extension list. The current list of them should contains opera-proxy.net, site-check1.opera.net, ..., site-check7.opera.net, api.surfeasy.com.
Then could you please try to choose specific "virtual-location" instead of "optimal location" if the current choice is so (http://clip2net.com/s/3Id80o6). Sometimes browser has it's own problem with connecting and it depends on your location, in particular.

@adbuker Hi,

I did not had ,,site-check1.opera.net, ..., site-check7.opera.net" on the list. I added these to the list and tried again. But it still keeps connecting.

After adding these to the HTTPS exclusion list, Opera crashes when I try to disable VPN from it's pop-up window and from settings. Opera starts with VPN connecting and I can't disable connecting VPN because Opera crashes when I click to disable it.
I have only Optimal location on the list, no other options.
5
I solved this temporary problem by disabling Opera Developer crash sending process via Windows Task Manager. Still VPN keeps connecting.

@Bushido1, let me ask a  couple clarifying questions.

Opera crashes

what exactly do you mean? Is opera-browser closed all tabs? and process died?

I have only Optimal location on the list, no other options

it can be the reason, that built-in VPN can't find suitable virtual location and accordingly connect to any remote proxy-server. In that case "keeping connecting" is explicable.

and the last one - could you please tell me, if issues described above don't occur without Adguard?

I could do nothing with Opera after the click to disable VPN. Windows asked me to end the process if I clicked repeatedly on the window.
These issues occur without Adguard also.

So if it appears also without Adguard, it is definitely not Adguard compatibility with Opera built-in VPN issue. In this case, As a first step, I suggest you reinstalling opera, i.e. first remove existing instance from your computer and then install the latest version. Moreover, I think that the lack of options in the "virtual locations" list is the reason for your trouble. Has this problem appeared before? and if it no so, what changes were on your computer, before you got this problem the first time?

Yes, this is expectable behavior, because you add opera VPN's proxy-servers into the list of https exclusion. So if you use opera VPN, Adguard doesn't filter any traffic got through these proxy-servers. In fact opera VPN is not VPN in common meaning, it's just proxy
