So, Chillsters has tweaked the Facebook plugin to work for Windows Phone 8. While it works great on it's own, when I added AdRotator to the project, it would no longer initiate and caused the app to freeze. I was able to get around it simply by loading the Facebook GameObject in a later scene and looping through the Init function until it took, so it seems that it's just due to AdRotator causing a little lag when it's first loaded. It's probably not a big deal, and actually something Chillsters should look into, but Simon thought I should log an issue in case you wanted to take a look.
