Quarries
Using whole large-sized used tyres (from agricultural and civil engineering equipment) to redevelop disused quarries was long marked by practises that had little or no organisation. It is for this reason that Aliapur decided, in 2005, to precisely identify the recommendations for use of used tyres as infill for quarry relining (techniques of the Pneusol® type) and, above all, to study the environmental impact.
The technique used consists in alternating ordered layers and alternating layers of tyres and earth. In partnership with the company Eurovia, Aliapur thus launched a test programme, both in the laboratory and on site. The practical part took place in a quarry in Normandy, authorised by the Préfecture to use tyres in this context. The laboratory tests, conducted by the scientific interest group, EEDEMS, and the research office ANTEA, produced in 2007 very encouraging results, concluding that using tyres has no effect on the environment or the quality of the water in contact with the infill.
