Checklist

  • I have used the search function for open and closed issues to see if someone else has already submitted the same feature request.
  • I will describe the problem with as much detail as possible.
  • This request contains only one single feature, not a list of multiple (related) features.

App version

2.7.1

Where did you get the app from

F-Droid

Problem you may be having, or feature you want

Navigating chapters is hard currently. There is no way to learn, what the chapter title of the currently playing chapter is from episode view.

Tapping chapter button will leave episode view and open chapter list. That would work for me if chapter view still had player controls. But those are gone when in chapter view.

Currently
Shownotes and Chapters buttons are next to each other. See AntennaPod screenshot

Expected

There are a few ways to solve this. Attached please find how overcast implemented a good chapter navigation solution. The benefits with their implementation:

  • allows to see current chapter title over player controls (this can be easily adopted by playing shownotes and chapter navigation below each other to gain width to display chapter title)
  • tapping circular icon left of timeline opens chapter view over the player controls (by not leaving the player, which is the core UI element of a any podcast player, that allows users to keep control over player while at the same time utilizing chapters)
  • the chapter view shows progress by simply filling the chapter box (no need for an additional UI element, current a circle that gets filled)
  • is a back button really needed for chapter navigation (over timeline)? Not having a back button helps omitting unwanted taps and assumption is, users are listening from left to right so rather unlikely want to go back via the chapter navigation above timeline, resulting in only a forward option being shown. To go back users can always open chapter list or simply tap on the timeline.

Am aware this will require quite some UI changes to AntennaPod but hope this conveys the idea and why I prefer this design proposal over the current implementation.
