Steps to Reproduce the Issue

  1. With Jetpack installed and Related Posts activated...

  2. Open WP Admin > Appearance > Customizer > Related Posts

  3. Try to customize any setting — not possible, there are no settings

What I Expected

Able to customize Related post settings, should look like this (see Workaround below):

screen shot 2017-08-31 at 13 56 19

What Happened Instead

Not possible to customize settings. Instead there is the following message:

Please visit a single post view to reveal the customization options.

Screenshot:

It's not intuitive what to do next, and to the unknowing user it looks like the Customizer is broken.

Workaround

  • Go to WP Admin > Jetpack > Settings > Traffic > Related Posts and click the link "You can now also configure related posts in the Customizer. Try it out!"

  • Inside Customizer, navigate to a post like so:

relatedposts_customize

The text in the panel says, "Please visit a single post view to reveal the customization options". Perhaps, we could update that text to link to a random single post on the site?

Perhaps, we could update that text to link to a random single post on the site?

Would it be possible to skip the manual steps and just load the latest post in the Customizer view?

Edit: Added this as Bug, but perhaps it would be more of an Enhancement? Feel free to change the labels.

This issue has been marked as stale. This happened because:

  • It has been inactive in the past 6 months.
  • It hasn’t been labeled `[Pri] Blocker`, `[Pri] High`.

No further action is needed. But it's worth checking if this ticket has clear reproduction steps and it is still reproducible. Feel free to close this issue if you think it's not valid anymore — if you do, please add a brief explanation.
