Hi,

I'm the one suffering from the problem ArchangeGabriel relayed here.

Here's my kern.log : http://paste.ubuntu.com/1680273/

I don't know what you mean by "hardware faults"?

Yeah, this post is perhaps similar to the one I opened on ubuntu-fr forum when I bought my laptop : http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=779891 - I also suffered to get Linuw working on this computer.

By "hardware fault" I mean defect hardware. If you disable bbswitch (PMMethod=none in /etc/bumblebee/bumblebee.conf, then reboot), can you reproduce this?
I don't know what "XID 16" means, maybe it is short of power.

Yes, seems to be the same thing with PMMethod=none : http://paste.ubuntu.com/1689679/

optirun glxspheres don't work.

I don't know either...

@snipe2004 Could you try with nouveau ? Just edit bumblebee.conf and set Driver=nouveau, restart bumblebeed and delete the file called something like "nvidia-hybrid" in /etc/modprobe.d/.

Hi,
I am new to both Ubuntu and bumblebee. But I guess I might be in trouble.
(1) when I run $optirun firefox, firefox can pop up with the following
warnings:
** (firefox:9444): WARNING **: Failed to open webapp application path

ReminderFox clh(1) {rmFx_cmdLine: [xpconnect wrapped nsICommandLine]}

(2) my env. is Ubuntu 12.10, and Nvidia GT540M. Bumblebee is installed.
But sometimes my laptop can not startup proprtly, with a black screen.
Is it possible that my Ubuntu desktop Unity not installed properly?

Hi,
I am new to both Ubuntu and bumblebee. But I guess I might be in trouble.
(1) when I run $optirun firefox, firefox can pop up with the following
warnings:

(2) my env. is Ubuntu 12.10, and Nvidia GT540M. Bumblebee is installed.
But sometimes my laptop can not startup proprtly, with a black screen.
Is it possible that my Ubuntu desktop Unity not installed properly?

First of all, please open a new issue rather than flood an other one, unless you have the exactly same problem.

And to answer you:

  1. Those warnings will also happens if you try just firefox into a terminal, right ? Nothing to worry about here...
  2. Don't know, but I know at least one person on a french forum having the same issue. Not sure that this is related to Bumblebee. Please open a new issue an prodive a kern.log corresponding to a "black screen" boot.

@ArchangeGabriel : I thought Bumblebee was NOT to be used with nouveau :o so I did'nt try it before, sorry!

Indeed, making the changes you suggested and rebooting made another error appears :

arnault@arnault-laptop:~$ optirun glxspheres
[ 154.186921] [ERROR]Cannot access secondary GPU - error: XORG [drm] Could not set DRM device bus ID.

[ 154.187029] [ERROR]Aborting because fallback start is disabled.
arnault@arnault-laptop:~$

Do you want some .log files to help you?

Be sure to edit /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia*_hybrid.conf (substitute * as needed) and comment/remove the line alias nouveau off. After doing so, restart bumblebeed.

Here there are :
kern.log (since 20/02) : http://paste.ubuntu.com/1701575/
Xorg.8.log : http://paste.ubuntu.com/1701581/

@Lekensteyn
In fact, from the above post's instruction, I "deleted" it (in fact simply mv it).
As you suggest it, I'll put it back in place, commenting the line alias nouveau off.
I'll get back to you with results tomorrow, as I've downloads I can't risk to interrupt right now...
Note that this file contains those instructions, and it's looking like they blacklist nouveau... : http://paste.ubuntu.com/1701605/

No, still the same error :

Kern.log for today : http://paste.ubuntu.com/1704424/

Note that I updated my Ubuntu to linux-kernel-...-3.5.0-25, and not 23 as in the beginning of my tests. Does it affect Bumblebee in one way or another?

EDIT : according to Lekensteyn's post, I put back in place nvidia_hybrind***.conf, with third line commented, before rebooting.

The kernel change has no importance there.

@Lekensteyn: So, bbswitch deactivated, still does not work. Any other idea ? Seems to be a really faulty hardware...

Ok, but which one amongst those :
arnault@arnault-laptop:~$ locate xorg.conf.nouveau
/etc/bumblebee/xorg.conf.nouveau
/usr/share/bumblebee/default-conf/xorg.conf.nouveau

Both? Only one?

[16930.382620] [ERROR]Aborting because fallback start is disabled.

EDIT 2 : adding the lines in the second one bring us back to the previous error :

[17109.946172] [ERROR]Aborting because fallback start is disabled.

EDIT 3 : Removing then the lines in the /etc one --> same error as in EDIT 2.

Have a look at your BIOS, maybe there are some interesting configuration options related to graphics that affect this. Otherwise, I have no idea since both nvidia and nouveau fail to work without meaningful messages.

Unfortunately, there is nothing in the bios about optimus... I already
had a look : as bumblebee didn't work, it was the easiest way to, at
least, stop my nvidia gpu. I'll check again when I'll be back home,
but I'm quite sure there's nothing to do with the bios.

Anyway, thanks for trying to help me! And thanks for Bumblebee, which
is so useful for every guy like me who bought a laptop ignoring that
optimus was such a shit under linux.

Sorry for the double post, but I just thought about something : a few
time ago, following ArchangeGabriel's advices, I switch my screen
management in bumblebee, you know from CRT to DFP, something like
that. Perhaps this switch is causing those non-helpful messages? Would
you want me to try again with the other setting?

I've looked again at this, but it definitively looks like faulting hardware/BIOS...

Closing since there is quite nothing we can do and only one people affected.
