This project stemmed as a test-case to replace antiquated software for data validation in an ocean monitoring project. There were two goals:

  1. Provide a reliable method for identifying potential outliers in a non-linear time series.
  2. Provide a for oceanographers to remove/include outliers using best professional judgement while still on station.

We used R Shiny to apply a weighted average model, than flagged any values that exceeded 2 standard deviations. Details on the project, weighted average function, and shiny app structure can be seen in a poster presented at UseR!2016
