If I unselect the auto min/max for the animation and enter values for the range, they are ignored. The auto min/max select doesn't work very well either and it selects a very limited range. Changing the generate button should turn it RED until the animation is done generating.

Who ever fixes, this should have a test for it as well.

min/max works from command line. Who is in charge of GUI tests?

on that note, no idea how to test an animation. I tried to use ffmpeg to split an mp4 back to png, that that did'nt work accros platform...

I just downloaded some nc sample data using wget from the esg node at http://esg.ccs.ornl.govhttp://esg.ccs.ornl.gov/. When I run ncdump (built by uvcdat) on any of the files I get:

ncdump -h miroc5.ua.20091020.00Z.nc
ncdump: miroc5.ua.20091020.00Z.nc: NetCDF: Unknown file format

If I try to open the file in UVCDAT I get the following error (and no variables show up in the gui):

File "/Developer/Projects/EclipseWorkspace/uvcdat/master/build/install/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/lib/python2.7/site-packages/cdms2/dataset.py", line 224, in openDataset

file1 = CdmsFile(path,"r")

File "/Developer/Projects/EclipseWorkspace/uvcdat/master/build/install/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/lib/python2.7/site-packages/cdms2/dataset.py", line 890, in init

raise CDMSError, 'Cannot open file %s (%s)'%(path,err)

cdms2.error.CDMSError: Cannot open file /Users/tpmaxwel/Data/MIROC/miroc5.ua.20091021.00Z.nc (No error)

This seems to be the case for any file I download from that site. I tried the same test about a week ago with the same result. I was of the understanding that this is the data that would be used in the ACME project so it would be very helpful if we could read it. Can anyone tell me who I should contact to find out why we can't read this data?

Cannot really test it without a test. So assuming that it fixes the issue.

The netcdf error: ncdump: miroc5.ua.20091020.00Z.nc: NetCDF: Unknown file format is often due to the netcdf4 file having been created using compression (zlib) and the binary (ncdump) trying to read the compressed file not being compiled with zlib/hdf5 support.

It's really important that netcdf4 in UV-CDAT 2.0 includes the zlib/hdf5 libraries, and consequently can read and write netcdf4 files that use compression/shuffling etc

Upon further investigation it appears that the wget script download from http://esg.ccs.ornl.govhttp://esg.ccs.ornl.gov/ is non-functional under MacOSX. It appears to work under Linux. Under MacOSX I was able to download the files individually using HTTP and assemble a working dataset but using the wget script all the downloaded files had size = 0.
