Initially we had intended that FLAT's levels would not be algorithmically generated on the fly, and instead would be created by level designers and loaded from file, allowing us to tailor levels around specific gameplay mechanics and create a learning curve and possible narrative for the game.

It was intended that players would have the ability to examine a map at the level's start and plan their route through the level, avoiding or confronting enemies as they saw fit.
