This page will document the communication process of the community communication processes.

IRC

Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is an application layer protocol that facilitates communication in the form of text. It is considered as our main asynchronous way of communicating with each other. The chat process works on a client/server networking model. IRC clients are computer programs that users can install on their system or web based applications running either locally in the browser or on 3rd party server. These clients communicate with chat servers to transfer messages to other clients. IRC is mainly designed for group communication in discussion forums, called channels, but also allows one-on-one communication via private messages as well as chat and data transfer, including file sharing. To join CityZen app community channel please follow these steps:

  • download an Internet Relay Chat client (some of us use XChat - we propose to use free software clients if you want to assure the software you use respects your freedoms);
  • choose freenote from the list of networks to join the channel;
  • join the #cityzen channel;

You can also join through your web browser by visiting webchat.freenode.net/?channels=cityzen. While we are happy you are participating please don't forget to respect our code of conduct (link soon).

Telegram

This our secondary communication method, but is not considered 'official' due to the fact that Telegram app is not totally free software. Here are the steps on how to engage with the CityZen community using Telegram:

  • download Telegram app or use the web interface by following the steps on the official website telegram.org;
  • Join t.me/CityZenApp. More info on how to join our Telegram channel soon.

Notes

IRC and Telegram app messages are synchronized. This means every time someones publishes messages on IRC the same message is published on Telegrem and vice versa. _ Status: there has not been any community discussion from the community about this issue: https://github.com/CityZenApp/Project-Management/issues/47
