When looking at kevingranade's pull request for a folding bike, it gave me an idea for a cool item; The Astral Shift Module. When installed on a vehicle, you can "shift" it to the nether dimension while standing next to it, and recall it later at a different location when you need it. Would have to be balanced (Very hard to install, shifting takes a large amount of energy, and has a chance to spawn void creatures on recall) but it could be a really cool "superscience" thing to have ingame. Would make a cool "end stage" reward for bottom of a Lab, maybe with logs and things saying it was something they built during their research of the nether dimension that caused the cataclysm. Anyone know if I this is doable, interesting, game-breaking, idiotic, or whatever?

That... actually sounds like a pretty cool idea. It would probably take a lot of work, and I'm not sure how well the framework could store multiple vehicles, but it sounds like a pretty cool idea. I could see it taking massive amounts of energy to do though. (I can also see this as a wonderful opportunity to have horrible things happen, such as the mentioned void monsters taking a ride in your vehicle on the way back).

Who says you have to be outside the vehicle when you shift it? hmm?

I've seen comments about going to the nether realm for some time now. This would be one way to achieve that, and actually come [kinda] prepared in the process.

Agreed. Once we get the ability to travel to the Nether world being able to use that mdoule to shift their while in the car would be cool.

Oh I didn't know people were thinking about adding nether world access. That's why I said you had to be outside the car; it would be kinda hard to send the character to a place that didn't exist ingame ;) (Actually reminds me of an old text-based game I played years ago The Multi-Dimensional Thief. Had one point where you landed in the Wizard of Oz, and examining the fence gate outside Dorothy's farmhouse said it was locked because the programmer didn't want to have to design the entire state of Kansas for you to wander around in! Hilarious game, never did figure out how to beat it, sigh. Well enough rambling.). If a nether realm is ever implemented, I think this would be an excellent method for getting there, that's actually the idea I had in mind when I suggested finding log entries in the Lab; when the scientists were studying the nether realm, this was a part of a prototype vehicle to access it, but the cataclysm occurred before they could finish the vehicle itself. Actually, this could even be a part of an endgame scenario, similar to doing the research to build the Avenger transport to attack the alien homeworld in X-COM. Maybe the module isn't even finished, you have to search the lab for parts and schematics to complete it. Now if only i had some coding skill to actually DO this :( Well that's why I made this issue, maybe some kind genious will read this and be able to program my dream ;)

By the way, the idea for nether creatures following your vehicle back came to me from an old D&D description of the bag of holding. When you put things in the bag, they were stored in a space in the astral realm, and there was a chance a passing astral creature might notice them and mess with them! Always thought that sounded funny, some being is having a nice walk and he finds this pile of junk sitting in the middle of nowhere and thinks "What the hell IS all this stuff? And why is it in the middle of my backyard garden?! It's flattened my rose bushes! I just finished pruning them yesterday! Damn material plane litterbugs! They just toss their stuff in some magic portal, never thinking that portal might come out in someones' house! Well I'll just stick this old claymore mine in with all this crap, that'll teach them a lesson! Ha Ha Ha!!! Thats how I always pictured it :)
