We're currently hand-waving away welding rods when using a welder, but they're easier to make than I thought, so possibly add them as a consumable.

The recipe is outlined here: http://blog.makezine.com/2013/03/13/how-to-diy-welding-rod/

But is basically coathanger + sillica gel packets + water + lye + heat.

These would have a number of charges and would be consumed by welding operations.

Hi, I didn't really see anyway to contact you, so I thought I would just ask here. Anyway, I'm kind of new to the Open Source scene and have been looking for projects to get involved in, and I thought this one looked interesting (I have been following your news recently as well). I'm kind of a beginner in terms of skill as well so I don't know if I can contribute to the code base quite yet, but I wanted to ask if you needed help with other aspects of the project such as bug testing, documentation, etc.

Tom, no expert myself and I thought similarly to you (wanted to help, etc). One of the best ways to do that is probably jumping in the IRC channel. It's mostly dev talk, really. Or someone will come in and ask about some bug and it might be an easy fix (in which you could go give it a shot). But from there you could have this conversation a LOT better.

edit: server changed to irc.quakenet.org #cataclysm-dda
