Tried to dig a pit, then duct-tape a window, any time a construction project is successful it causes the game to crash.

I couldn't reproduce this, they all seem to work for me (clean build, same version).

@yobbobanana Tried re-DLing the (presumably, link changed to "graphical" so I'm gonna assume that's graphical) SDL build, it's still not working. I'm running Windows Vista SP2 32 Bit, 2 Gigs RAM with 4 gigs of "ReadyBoost" space on a flash drive. 1.6 Ghz Dual Core. No luck though XD

Is it only the SDL version that's affected by this? I couldn't reproduce it, but I was using the ASCII version.

Someone else has this issue, here's the thread: http://smf.cataclysmdda.com/index.php?topic=4235

Have this issue as well. SDL and curses both crash, windows 7 64 if that helps. Didn't happen in version 0.8-2654-gd3a9697. SDL crashes straight to desktop. Curses gives the following debug info:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: cataclysm.exe
Application Version: 0.0.0.0
Application Timestamp: 5285aff5
Fault Module Name: cataclysm.exe

Tried several characters in several worlds, both versions.

To reproduce I do this:

  1. Create random character
  2. Go to closed window at shelter
  3. Smash it
  4. Hit [*] for the Construction menu
  5. Hit [h] for Clean Broken Window

At this moment the game crashes (SDL straight to desktop, curses with a similar error to the above.)

EDIT:

Note that I have to be next to a broken window for this to happen.

I can confirm this. I'm using the curses version (same build), tried clearing a smashed window and it immediately crashed to desktop.

This seems to be Windows-only -- the Linux Tiles build doesn't exhibit this behaviour, and presumably Linux-Curses doesn't either.

Yea I checked linux curses, no crash.
The most valuable feedback people can provide is either a backtrace (how that even works on windows I don't know) or try out old experimental versions and help narrow down when this happened.
Reading the commit history and bug reports, I'm VERY confused about this, we have very specific reports that this only cropped up on experimental AFTER we forked 0.9 to stabilize it.

Seems to be an issue with i686-pc-mingw-g++ version 4.7.0, which is what the build system is using, specifically it's got some buggy optimizations in the -O3 set. I backed off to -Os and it seems stable now. Here's 0.9 rebuilt, grab a copy and reopen this if it's still crashing.

Well crap, no wonder we couldn't reproduce it, thanks for the quick turnaround!
