Quote from a non - reddit gaming website that discusses cataclysm.

"Time for infinite bandages. If you drop an item and [e]xamine it from an adjacent tile, press any number and then the items' letter, the [-] should turn into a # Press enter to take the item. It should still be on the ground, but there should also be the very same item in your inventory.

Someone can report it if they want. I don't have an account on the forums.
This was done on the Windows 0.9 gdi version."

Uh-huh. So you can pick up less than a full stack by examining, but it doesn't actually check that the amount you want to pick up is actually present. Oops?

The object I duplicated was the ballistic mask my character started out with. After following the instructions above there were two masks. One on the ground and one in my inventory. I didn't try it with bandages or other consumables.
