Phase II
Sequence various tasks and implement PRs for them.
Proficiencies:
A way to distinguish overall skill level from specific things you can do with that skill. For example:
Fabrication - blacksmithing, carpentry, glassblowing
Computers - AI, hacking, programming
Mechanics - lockpicking, welding, diesel engines, gas engines
Driving - sailing
Proficiencies can be learned from books, but most have requirements: a level in the relevant skill and possibly related ones, and possibly attribute levels as well.
Many proficiencies could also be learned from first principles if you have a high enough level in the base skill, eg learning lockpicking by dismantling locks.
At character creation, you would probably get a few proficiencies associated with your profession, and perhaps be able to buy more with skill points.
Having a particular expertise trait would automatically grant you a number of associated proficiencies.
