Ah the range limit! And here I thought my laptop got borked. ;-) I love the new stuff mate! |

Yeah, the laptop had a 10 tile range limit that never worked (misplaced ')' ). Now you need to sneak up on the bot, which may make using it really hard. When the bots get IR vision, the hacking range should probably get extended too. |

Anyone else think it might be fun to rename the profession to Rigger, ala Shadowrun? The CBM could also be called "CBM: rigger control". |

I think putting control laptop functions in the CBM is overboard, with the |

Cut out the control laptop from the CBM. Lowered Drone Operator point cost to 1, because the profession had no "real life" skills or equipment and now also has no defensive tricks (other than distractions). I'm not too keen on the rename. Some people may like the reference, but most probably won't get it and won't even know what it's all about. Drone Operator and Remote Controller sound more descriptive to me. |

Hah, nice. Guess the hacker would be Decker, and Razor Girl a Street Sammy? ;-) |

Also, perhaps keeping it the same range even with IR may make EMP/Scramblers interesting combo. |

Nope, we have news/pizza delivery people as professions, so bots probably shouldn't be putting them out of work. Package delivery perhaps?

I'd say that it could work like it works right now: drones deliver some of the stuff, people deliver the rest.
Not every chain can afford to use drones all the time, range problems, noise etc.
Just like how police drones work with police people rather than replacing them.

Beat PD actually has been largely phased out for drones, IIRC. Pizza and paper delivery that requires human intervention would probably be more along the lines of a marketing thing: Know Your Deliverator.

I trust that's supposed to justify the controls, and trust that you made sure the weight's similar?

I tried to make the usefulness similar rather than going by weight. If weight was to be retained, the tankbot would be disassembled to 300 steel chunks rather than 30.

OK, drone camera is just for show. Wold be nontrivial to add remote patch-in, so yeah. |
Coolthulhu commentedJan 6, 2015
Added a profession, a CBM, remote-only controls and a vehicle related to remote vehicle controls.
Vehicle is Automatic Street Sweeper. Basically Roomba on roids, except thin instead of flat. Has a camera and the new controls. Spawns semi-rarely on the streets and carries quite a bit of trash (same stuff as in trash cans and dumpsters).
The new controls are an obstacle and take the center part of the vehicle (they're supposed to be a part of a robot, not passenger vehicle). They are also foldable, though I'm not sure if there are any other foldable vehicle parts usable in unmanned vehicles.
Another source of the new controls is tank drones (guaranteed on disassemble) and a rare drop from other bots.
A CBM is combined remote vehicle controller, radio RC and control laptop (currently recursive menu). That last component may be a bit too much, but I don't think hacked bots are getting enough love. Vast majority of survivors has never seen a non-hostile bot. Now that 10 range limit is back, hacking a bot requires a proper setup too.
The CBM is a rare drop in machine and science related item groups.
Profession (Drone Operator) costs 2 points, starts with remote CBM, battery system and power storage, clothing and 2 computer skill. Only 2 points, because it has no early game abilities, skills or items.
Also fixed few minor bugs related to remote control: crash on remote veh sinking in water, the ability to control a vehicle without a proper device (dropping the controller would not stop the control) and bioblade and bio claws turning on even if their activation fails (for example, when cuffed).
