Use of this joke item allows for permanent godlike (and otherwise [nigh]
unobtainable) stats through tedious gameplay. Illustration: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8970937/CDDA/char.jpg

This change makes them less game-breaking by not improving your stats past 15.

Instead of capping at 15 after addition, how about capping at the higher value between 15 and the pre-buff value? That should stop people who started with something like 13 STR and then got some STR mutations from losing strength when they get hit with BUFFS!

Good point, implemented this.

I mean, implemented not losing stats from buffs; depending on pre-buff value allows cap bypass via mutliple buffs.

IMHO you should cap the buff at 15 instead of stat + buff being capped at whatever.
Because if I start at 13 str I don't want to be limited to only 2 str gain from BUFFS as opposed to normal uncapped gain, from say, Hydraulic Muscles or Strong mutation.

I agree. Problem is, BUFFS are not effect or otherwise stored somewhere and directly change str_max, so I couldn't easily limit total BUFFS gain.

Maybe the whole permanent stat upgrade thing should be replaced by temporary effect instead? You generally shouldn't rely on a joke item to give you any serious edge.

I like the Granades and would prefer they stay the way they are. There is a blacklist mod if people don't like the effects.

I see no point in changing Granades as they aren't really breaking the game for anyone else since the game is single player, if people don't want to use it might as well have a black list option for it to remove it from the loot spawn pool in favor of other items. Some people just wanna see how high they can go before bugs happen.

Problem with having such things in mainline game is that other parts of game will have to be balanced against them and game will eventually rely on you abusing the hell out of granades. If some players want to have 30 STR they can go and edit their save files, as Kevin noted above.

That would mean everything is balanced around zombie dancers and thriller zombie and around the other easter egg monster (both are in mainline). Is that true?

If you actually balance things around the Granades, you make them real (non-joke) items, their usage would than be required and the whole point of removing them via the mentioned mod would be gone.

In that case, however, it also needs to be "realistic" - what definition of that fits and item that spawns bees or randomly increase/decrease stats?

Yes, game is balanced so you are expected to survive encounters with those and do not become crazy overpowered if you defeat them.

Being a joke has nothing to do with balance. Joke item can be balanced yet wacky/ruining atmosphere.

Cap at 15, but won't lower stats above it.

Good, let's now nerf EVERYTHING FUCKING ELSE because it creates god-characters if enough time is invested. Congratulations for making extremely rare Granades have no reward value.

Having 15 in all stats is far from "no reward value", no matter how you look at it.

You're missing the point, they're a joke item, they're not supposed to have
'reward value'. The fact that people factor them into their build means
the item massively overstepped its bounds already, and we're trying to
reign it in without too much impact.
