A huge (more than 80 new books) project to increase the variety of books in-game and include skill books of varying levels for all of the game's skills.

There's a lot of new novels - more options for boosting morale and fun for collectors!

All of the old books are still there, and new books have been added so that all skills have at least one of the following:

id mag_XXXXX - that teaches the skill from 0-1

id manual_XXXXX - that teaches the skill from 0-3

After that it changes slightly, all the physical skills (driving, swimming, and all the combat skills) no longer have standardized skill books, however the remaining skills all have at least one of:

id textbook_XXXXX - that teaches the skill from 3-6

The combat and physical skill books are all fairly rare, and generally show up in military and sports type of places.

The labels magazine, manual, and textbook are ids, they do not necessarily have anything to do with the books' in-game names.

Many skills already have books that teach different skill ranges outside of the three types listed here.

I don't want skill books to be ubiquotous, some skills, the more physical ones in particular don't make sense to learn from books.
The ones that make sense are Computer, Electronics, Mechanics, Survival, and Traps.

I think having a book for every skill is a good idea. Who said they all need to spawn? The more physical ones would simply spawn with a 1% chance.

My plan is for the 'physical' skills to only have like a magazine and possibly a single, low-end book.

The more intellectual pursuits will get books that can train you up to high levels, but the physical type stuff will only allow you to train to low levels - theory can only get you so far without actual practice.

Ok, I'll take a look through them when I can, I wasn't looking at skill
caps as closely as I should.

There's a method to this madness. You'll see the pattern when it's complete.

It's just taking me a bit longer than other projects due to time constraints.

Is there some sort of skill inflation going on? In particular i'm wondering about the rationale behind the computer book level increases, but it looks like quite a few others have also leveled up.

I just standardized the levels of the skill books.

0-1 magazine, 0-3 manual, 3-6 textbook, and 5-8 for the top-tier books.

Previously, the skill levels that books could train you to were rather random.

Samurai novel.
Yes I know it's almost identical to the western novel. It's intentional,
since the stories are usually interchangeable; just swap Clint Eastwood
for Toshiro Mifune and guns for swords. In other words, it's a bit of a
joke.
Two new women's magazines, tailoring and cooking 0-1, super common.
And no I'm not perpetuating a stereotype against my own gender here.
They're common as all heck, they're as big as phonebooks, and the only
useful info a C:DDA hero could extract from one might be a little of the
cooking or tailoring skill. Maybe. And it'd take a lot of effort. So I
set their reading times much higher and made them huge, heavy versions
of the normal skill magazines, and I think they look legit.
