In 0.15.0, the ability to name the Podfile as CocoaPods.podfile was added. However, after upgrading to 0.18.1, when I run pod update on an existing project with a CocoaPods.podfile podfile, I get the following error:

[!] No `Podfile' found in the current working directory.

If I rename CocoaPods.podfile to Podfile then pod update runs.

I didn't see anything about this removal in the changelog. Was this intentional? I don't know about others, but I really appreciated being able to name my podfiles with an extension and associate them with a syntax in my text editor.

That option was never meant to be advertised, but more of an experiment. You’re not first one to have been using this feature, though, but I don’t remember what we decided since then. @irrationalfab do you remember?

I removed it because I didn't realized the people where using. Now, I'm not sure about how to proceed because at the moment it is unclear to me how popular the yaml variant of the syntax will be and so I'm not sure sure about adding the extension for the DSL. However I can't hurt, and it is just a line. So @alloy what is your take?

I hadn’t thought about the serialised case yet… But maybe we should just call that ‘CocoaPods.podfile.yaml’ ? The current Ruby version could then be called ‘CocoaPods.podfile’ again.

Regardless, it’s probably best to start moving away from extension-less files.

Sounds good. Should we drop the support for the current experimental Podfile.yaml?

The Podfile.yaml convention has been deprecated in favor of CocoaPods.podfile.yaml.

CocoaPods.podfile syntax present again in v0.19 -- awesome. Thanks guys!
