CoreData models (.xcdatamodel) are only compiled if they are inside a container .xcdatamodeld.

I do not know the reason for having data models outside of a container, but I do have a non-pod dependency that has it, so I'm guessing it is a legacy thingy.

Once I find the pull request that added .xcdatamodeld compilation, I'll add it to this issue.

I'm closing this issue as a corner case. Please feel free to submit a pull request if you need support for this specific feature.

How should I do for .xcdatamodel now?

Your best bet is to create a new data model with the same name, which will be an .xcdatamodeld package, place the .xcdatamodel inside and set it as the current model version. You may need to restart xcode to get it to detect the file changes.

You will need to be able to fork or otherwise maintain your own version to do this.
