This is the release candidate (RC) of Cub Linux version 1.0 (previously Chromixium OS)

Now released for 32 and 64 bit. Please use 64 bit for EFI and secure boot systems. Use 32 bit for low RAM and 32 bit only processors. Google Chrome and Adobe Flash are only available in the 64 bit image.

The testing period is short as the deadline for the discontinuation of Chromixium OS is 31 March 2016.

Please verify the checksums and digital signatures before using:

  1. Download the signing key from the public key server:

    $ gpg --keyserver hkp:// --recv-keys DC4B837E

  2. Download the .sig files for the ISO and SHA256SUM.

  3. Verify the ISO

    $ gpg --verify CubLinux-1.0RC-amd64.iso.sig CubLinux-1.0RC-amd64.iso

  4. Verify the SHA256SUM file in the same way:

    $ gpg --verify CubLinux-1.0RC-amd64.iso.sha256sum.sig CubLinux-1.0RC-amd64.iso.sha256sum
  5. Verify the ISO file against the SHA256SUM:

    $ sha256sum CubLinux-1.0RC-amd64.iso
    c7d1413328e346bef97709fef0dfaa581031ef8d376f67c3c4f671eb11bcd5cc  CubLinux-1.0RC-amd64.iso

  • Kernel 4.2 and updated xorg stack to latest lts-wily version
  • New branding, theme and artwork. The wallpaper in this beta may not be the final default wallpaper, feedback required!
  • Dedicated Cub Linux repository for pushing updates to bespoke packages
  • New window edge snapping
  • Better brightness control via battery icon
  • Better volume slider
  • Chromium OS style avatars
  • Clipboard daemon
  • Parole removed. Replaced with new dedicated music player app and videos play in Chrome Media Player.
  • New picture viewer, Viewnior. Can set wallpaper from the viewer.
  • Chromium default apps and theme enabled for each new profile.
  • Grub Bootloader manager added to Control Panel.
  • Compton desktop compositor managed by conf file at ~/.config/compton.conf makes it easier to adjust to solve screen tearing issues with certain graphics cards
