Introduction

Soundflower was originally developed and financed by Matt Ingalls for Cycling ‘74. There was good information at "Cycling 74’s Soundflower Page": http://cycling74.com/products/soundflower/ (RIP); an archive still exists: @ archive.org & @ archive.org

Working binaries; Mojave, Sierra and High Sierra

For a signed (and thus easily installed) binary, see https://github.com/mattingalls/Soundflower/ – it looks like it should/does work on Mojave, based on what I saw at "another Soundflower web page (from a different entity):https://www.fluxforge.com/blog/soundflower-os-x-10.11-10.12-macOS-sierra/ . My GUESS is that the installers in both places work equally well. (I’m going to try Ma++’s; trusting the original author (or at least someone claiming to be him, and with an Apple Developer signing key) seems like a relatively good idea.) And I’m GUESSING that it’s a good idea to uninstall any old Soundflower stuff per the instructions over on the main page of Ma++’s fork .

-A random user of Soundflower back in the pre-SIP (System Integrity Protection), mostly pre-code-signing days (I wrote http://www.elvey.com/insecure/ back then!) who happens to be the first person to edit this wiki. Thanks, Ma++, for providing this basic level of support, and for creating Soundflower! -MATTTT

comments, bugs, discussions, etc

Figuring out the best place for comments, bugs, discussions, pull requests, etc? Here’s some thoughts: Not https://github.com/mattingalls; there’s no Issues section. I don’t know a way to tell which fork at https://github.com/mattingalls/Soundflower/network/members is “most active” (and thus likely best)… The root of this code tree, https://github.com/akhudek/Soundflower, points to https://code.google.com/archive/p/soundflower, which points to https://github.com/Cycling74 but that doesn’t have an entry for Soundflower anymore, and https://cycling74.com/soundflower says, “As of 2014, Cycling ’74 is no longer developing or supporting Soundflower” and points back to https://github.com/mattingalls/Soundflower, which links prominently here. AHA! This fork seems best! It’s relatively informative. Though the main page was last edited Apr 11, 2017 (a year and a half ago; pre Mojave days! (hint>, <hint) ), the main page of Ma++’s fork links prominently here – AND it has an Issues section AND it’s active – lots of discussion of Mojave! [MERGE done] Also, fluxforge’s page links here.

Oddly, I haven’t (yet) reinstalled Soundflower since those pre-signature-required days (IIRC), yet Soundflower still shows up in Sound Preferences and at about:support in Firefox. It doesn’t work though, even with these tips .
