This is a repository of data sets created by the Demand Progress open government team.

Appropriations Resources

Budget Resources:

Federal Government

  • Federal Government Budget Justifications for Fiscal Years 2018 & 2019: Federal government agencies submit requests to Congress that lay out where appropriated funds will go. We built a database of these documents for 456 federal agencies. (Last updated 03/04/2019) Excel file can be downloaded (here).

Congress

  • House and Senate Budget Information, 1994-present: Line by line breakdown of how legislative branch appropriations are divided up among the legislative branch agencies, committee staff, and personal staff. (Last updated 05/20/2019) Excel file can be downloaded (here).

Congressional Committees

  • House Committee Allotments, 104th Congress-present: Appropriators set a spending ceiling for each congressional committee, these are known as committee allotments. (Last updated 05/07/2019) Excel file can be downloaded (here).
  • Senate Committee Allotments, 104th Congress-present: Appropriators set a spending ceiling for each congressional committee, these are known as committee allotments. (Last updated 05/07/2019) Excel file can be downloaded (here).
  • Changes in Democratically-Controlled House Committee Allotments 111th Congress-present: Analyzing how the spending ceiling for each congressional committee, known as committee allotments, have changed since the House was last under Democratic control during the 111th Congress .   • Discretionary Appropriations Spending 302 (b) allocations, 2007-present: Funding for the appropriations committees gets divided among the appropriations subcommittees. The amount given to a subcommittee is known as its 302 (b) allocation. (Last updated 04/17/2019) Excel file can be downloaded (here).

Legislative Data:

  • Member Day Testimony Before the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress: A breakdown of which members testified and which subjects they discussed. (Last updated 03/18/2019) Excel file can be downloaded (here).
  • House Bill Inventory, 106th-114th Congresses: Building on data from GovTrack.us, this data set includes information about every House bill from the 106th to 114th Congresses, including the number of co-sponsors, the bill status, and whether bills are "substantive" or "non-substantive". Legislative Branch Agency Data:

  • Capitol Police Arrest Summary Data December 2018-present and Officer Complaint Data FY 2009-FY 2018: Each week the USCP post an arrest summary pdf which we convert into a dataset. (Last updated 05/09/2019) Excel file can be downloaded (here).
  • House Inspector General Reports, 1995-2018: The House Inspector General (IG) no longer publishes reports online and has removed historical IG reports from its website. We've created an inventory of all the House IG reports we could find from 1995-2018. (Last updated 11/02/2018) Excel file can be downloaded (here).
  • Legislative Branch Child Care Availability: We created an inventory of how many legislative branch employees are on a waitlist for child care as well as an inventory of how many child care spots are available for those employees. (Last updated 10/11/2018) Excel file can be downloaded (here).
