Zombie Chris was seeing problems yesterday with his cuts ending in a different place to their start. It seems to be only in the x-axis, and wasn't doing it at all today.

So it could be a weird problem with his specific files, but we can leave this issue open for a while to collect any other instances of it happening.

The problem files are saved on the desktop on Gerald's PC, in a folder Issue Test Files\#778 - drift issue

Although I knew Gerald wasn't really working, I attempted to mark out a large spiral on a piece of Correx, in the hope of being able to cut it out with a knife. The line produced was of varying visibility (unfortunately none in many places), but it did go over the same line every time.

We did have a issue where Gerald cut out the large gear for the Knitic as an ellipse instead of a circle.

This evening the skipping has been quite obvious. It's not the file, because it was happening some times on an identical cut being done a number of times from the cutter.

We need to check if there's a new belt (I think there's one in the laser-spares cupboard) and fit it.

I did some testing during Maker night last night and there is an obvious step in the x-axis movement when moving the head with the power switched off.

I found what appear to be the new belts for this axis with @amcewen last night and will endeavour to fit this new belt on Friday to see if this fixes the issue. I suspect that there may also be some belt alignment which will also be fixed at the same time.

Drive belt now replaced on x-axis on Gerald. Movement now appears much smoother. Test cut appeared OK in a cutting position that previously showed slippage, so closing this issue.
