Make the location of the toilets more obvious, from more parts of the space #804

Despite our BEAUTIFUL vinyls (#726) brand new visitors to DoES often ask where the toilets are.

Often, they’ll be standing in the middle of the space, near the sofas, and because they’re at a very oblique angle to the toilet doors, the vinyls won’t be visible. The toilet doors are also in the darkest corner of the space, so less noticeable.

I just asked one chap who couldn’t find the toilets, where he’d looked when he was searching for a toilet sign. He said:

  1. He noticed the accessible toilet sign (because the door was ajar, and thus clearly visible from the main space) but had been trained not to use disabled loos, and so wanted to find a regular toilet instead.
  2. He thinks he probably would have noticed a sign for the regular toilet if it had been placed on the far wall, to the immediate right of the fire exit, or maybe somewhere near the accessible toilet.
