xterm fails to write auth info #4

Connecting to a system using DPorts with ssh and running a program to display back to the connecting machine does not work - e.g. 'ssh -y hostname; xterm'.

~/.Xauthority never gets written by sshd on login as it's supposed to. If the file exists, xauth does not complain to it, but also never writes to it. I think that data is generated by the connecting computer and copied in through ssh? Example login below.

/usr/local/bin/xauth: file /home/justin/.Xauthority does not exist
/usr/local/bin/xauth: (stdin):1: bad display name "unix:10.0" in "remove" command
/usr/local/bin/xauth: (stdin):2: bad display name "unix:10.0" in "add" command

This was seen on two separate x86_64 DragonFly machines; one a completely new install, as the target host for login. Logins were from a DragonFly 3.2 host or a Windows machine running PuTTY and Xming.

Debug output from ssh. It seems to be calling xauth just fine, from the debug info. It's xauth that's failing to create or update an .Xauthority file. Touching .Xauthority and chmoding it 777 gets rid of the complaint that it's not there, but nothing ever gets written to it.

From IRC last night:

  1. set hostname in /etc/rc.conf required
  2. adjust location of binary in /etc/ssh/sshd_config
  3. set hostname in /etc/dhclient.conf

If that solves the problem, I'd like to close this issue.

I'll test to confirm - I wrote down the steps but I wasn't able to boot up
a DPorts-using image last night due to time constraints.
