Terms

This is a list of the terms used in the Troubleshooting and the FAQ, read it to better understand the context of the documents.

Source (Source user, Source device)

  • He is the user/device that begins the screen sharing.
  • He generates the Duplica Link and shares it (via AirDrop, WhatsApp, Email, Sms ...) to the Destination.
  • He uses the Duplica app to "grab" the screen of his device and stream it to the Destination device.

Destination (Destination user, Destination device)

  • He is the user/device that will watch on a web browser the screen shared by the Source.
  • He receives the Duplica Link from the Source and opens it in a web browser.
  • He doesn't use the Duplica app but only the web browser.

Duplica Link, Duplica Id

  • It is a link (an id) that identifies the screen-sharing session.
  • It is generated by the Source using the Duplica App and it is shared with the Destination.
  • It grants the Destination access to the screen share streamed by the Source.
  • The Duplica Link is generated when the Duplica starts and it is still the same until Duplica App is not closed or the Duplica Link is not renewed manually (using the function available in the app).

General

Why can't I see content from some apps?

Because some apps impose limitations and don't allow screen capturing. In that case, you will see a black screen on the destination device.

I'm not able to start the screen sharing from the app

If you press the button to share the screen and the sharing doesn't start and you don't see the system advice "Recording", you have to restart your device and try again.

There is no sound (audio doesn't work)

The Duplica Free does not support audio sharing, upgrade to Duplica Plus to have this feature.

With Duplica Plus, in web sharing the sharing starts with volume = 0, you can increase it by clicking on the volume icon (bottom right) in the destination browser.

The app stop sharing when the device is locked

This is a limitation of iOS that avoid screen sharing in the background for performance and privacy reason.

In some cases is not possible to rotate the image

The Duplica Free does not support automatic screen rotation, upgrade to Duplica Plus to have this feature.

This could happen also because some apps don't implement the system rotation.

The destination watch a black/white screen

The Duplica Free does support only black/white screen sharing, upgrade to Duplica Plus to have this feature.

The quality of audio/video is poor

The quality of streaming depends from:

  • the network bandwidth
  • the performance of the device (an iPhone 6s has less performance than an iPhone 13)

Check:

  • if the network is not congested
  • if you are using a 5Ghz wifi network (5ghz has better performance on streaming of 2.4ghz)
  • if you have a good cellular signal (if you are using the cellular network)

Can I change the quality of video and audio sharing?

Yes, it is possible to use the settings menu to change this configuration (the setting menu is available with Duplica Plus). You can choose 3 different settings:

  • Speed
  • Balanced (default)
  • High Quality

The High-Quality settings is a high bandwidth/resource consumer, if enabling it you will see some delay we suggest to fallback to Balanced or Speed.

Chromecast Sharing

The app is not able to find a Chromecast device

  1. Make sure the source device and the Chromecast are on the same network.
  2. Check if the "Local Network Permission" is granted going in the menu of the device in the section

Settings -> Privacy -> Local Network

and enable this permission for Duplica

  1. Check if your router has the configuration "Ap isolation" enabled and disable it.
  2. Try to restart your device (iPhone/iPad and Chromecast).
  3. Try to restart your router(s).

Web Sharing

In the destination browser, I receive the message "Too many connections"

Currently, it is possible to share the screen to only one destination device at a time.

The message appears when more than one destination device is connected (trying to connect) using the same Duplica Link. To solve it, close all the browser tabs/windows of Duplica you have opened and try again.

If the problem persists, the source has to reset the Duplica Link and share the new one with the destination.

I get the message "Duplica Link not valid"

The Duplica Link you have provided is not valid, contact the source and check if it is correct.

The session is started from the source but in the browser, I still have the message "Screen sharing not started yet"

  1. Refresh the destination page (using F5 or the refresh button on the browser)
  2. Check with the source if the Duplica Link is the same
  3. Ask the source to generate a new Duplica Link and ask him to send it to you

I see the message "Sharing session expired"

After a while that a sharing session is not started it expires. If the source started screen sharing you can refresh the page (using F5 or the refresh button on the browser). If the source has started the screen sharing but you continue to see the message "Sharing session expired" probably the Duplica Link is wrong, ask for a new one.
