After struggling with Elgg to install and test stuff, I finally made it to the Hello world tutorial. Then I soon discovered that it's not quite up to date...

  1. Got confused by "the root of your app"; found out it should be under the Elgg installation directory, in mod/appname. Probably. (Is there a reason to call it an app and not a plugin?)
  2. Elgg wants also a manifest.xml file, which is not mentioned in the tutorial.
  3. It was a little unclear exactly where the view file should go. I probably put it in elgg/views/default/resources/ first and then figured it should be in elgg/mod/hello/views/default/resources/.
  4. The page also doesn't mention that the new plugin should be activated in the admin page of Elgg.

But I managed to do some trial-and-error and found enough info elsewhere to finish the hello world, so now I think I can update the docs to fix this issue that I just announced! Let's see how that goes.

docs(tutorials): updated Hello world
I made the Hello world tutorial clearer and included how to create the manifest file, which was missing completely but is required by newer (1.9+ apparently) versions of Elgg.

Fixes Elgg#9875
