In trying to map terms from Gemina to EnvO, we’ve run into some terms I would propose we classify under a new “biotic material” term to be created under “environmental substance”. “Biotic material” would have a child of “animal product” which in turn would have children of “bone meal”, “hide”, and “wool”.

The existing terms animal litter, food, hay, straw, and wood could be moved under biotic material and bone could be moved under animal product

Potential problems:
Is there a clear difference between animal product and animal-associated habitat?
How will we differentiate between different types of hide? Cross-products?

Definitions are as follows:
biotic material – any natural material that is originated from living organisms
animal product – products either produced by an animal or taken from the body of an animal.
bone meal – A mixture of crushed and coarsely ground bones that is used as an organic fertilizer for plants and in animal feed
hide – the skin of an animal whether raw or dressed
wool – the soft wavy or curly usually thick undercoat of various hairy mammals and especially the sheep made up of a matrix of keratin fibers and covered with minute scales

“compost” should be included in the list of existing terms (animal litter, food, hay, straw, and wood) that would be moved under biotic material.
