The iMicrobe project has annotated a large dataset of 2813 environmental metagenomic samples with terms from the Environment Ontology, to better describe the environments in which the samples were collected. Metadata includes an ENVO term for biome, environmental material, and environmental feature, to the most specific level known. 2427 samples have annotations for biomes, 1690 for environmental materials, and 1657 for environmental feature. These annotations were based on text annotations supplied by the original data providers. The ENVO annotations are available at https://github.com/hurwitzlab/imicrobe-lib/blob/master/docs/mapping_files/CameraMetadata_ENVO_working_copy.csv. Sequence data and other metadata for the samples is available through http://data.imicrobe.us/.
