Directions, Routing, and Logistics Services

If you are using ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6 or later, these tools are included as part of Publishing Routing Services utility that ships with ArcGIS Server. The tools mentioned on this site should only be used with ArcGIS Enterprise 10.5 and 10.5.1

Directions, routing, and logistics services can be used to perform route, closest facility, service area, location-allocation, origin destination cost matrix, or vehicle routing problem analyses on transportation networks. The services can be configured with your portal as utility services and can then be used with ArcGIS Desktop applications such as ArcGIS Pro and ArcMap, or in the Map Viewer to get directions or perform analysis.

The below pages explain how these routing services can be published to an ArcGIS Server site using the network dataset that is available as part of StreetMap Premium for ArcGIS or created from your own street data. The steps need to be completed in the given order.

  1. Software and Data Requirements
  2. Data Setup
  3. Publish Routing Services
  4. Configuring Routing Services with Portal for ArcGIS

If you are upgrading to ArcGIS Enterprise 10.5 or 10.5.1, you need to first delete the existing routing services (by deleting the Routing folder in your ArcGIS Server Site) and then republish the directions and routing services using the same workflow that is described above. Refer to the what's new page to find out the new features specific to directions and routing services in ArcGIS Enterprise 10.5 and 10.5.1.
