Icons are rendered as square blocks or square blocks containing X'es. Tested on Android 2.2.1 and iOS 5.1.1. Note that Opera Mobile (a different application) does not have this problem.

The latest Opera Mini 7 doesn't support @font-face, see When can I use or Opera's product specs. So no way to get these icons to work there

Ah. I assumed it did.

From http://caniuse.com/fontface, it appears Opera Mini has no plans to include Font-face. Does anyone know otherwise?

Also, does anyone have any real stats on Opera Mini usage? I'm trying to get an accurate gauge on the % of people use this browser before implementing a fallback solution like Modernizr.

I use Opera's "State of the Mobile Web" for regional usage stats: http://www.opera.com/smw/

Here in East Africa it's a common way for people to get online with low end devices. I'd love to be able to use it in my apps. Any pointers towards a workaround?

@thebenedict possibly using images / css sprites and only load from the sprite file if the browser the user is using is opera mini.. just an idea, that should work.. I havent tested it at all

It's big in india.

@awebdeveloper yes but opera mini doesn't support webfonts at all, fontawesome could not fix this and we have no plans to support pngs.

Take a look at this project: https://github.com/CodeCharmLtd/Font-Awesome-SVG-PNG

But it does support svg
