Some options are captured here:

It is worth it to spend some time here to analyse what the best options are.

The ideal option is:

  • cheap (<$100 USD)
  • supported out of the box by the Linux kernel
  • portable (roughly the size of a usb hard disk or smaller)

There is a solution with two components

UltiMate 2000 AX VGA to Composite Video Media Scan Converter (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15223)

EzCAP116 USB 2.0 Video Capture Device

plugging the two together enables recording from one computer to another. The Linux module is already available, it's the em28xx module :)

to make it work, just run the following commands as root:

modprobe -r em28xx

modprobe em28xx card=64

after that, the module should work...start up freeseer and things should work.

I will say the quality of this video is probably not quite as good as the vga2usb, but it's pretty good.
