When .local hostname is set as an alias site not accessible

It seems that if I enter the domain of my development site the same as it would be in production and add the .local domain as an alias (without redirection) it is not accessible from my host.

clarification from @ergonlogic

just call it what you normally would have in production Valkyrie will handle adding the .local to the end of it

eg: example.com will be accessible at example-com.local
