Given the name, Ambystoma laterale × A. texanum × A. tigrinum (see eg http://www.prf.or.jp/cgi-bin/orgget.pl?org=Ambystoma;inf=1), I'd expect parsing into all components rather than receiving an unparsed tail, " × A. tigrinum" in the response.
